Subway began in 1965 when then-17-year-old Fred De Luca sought advice from his family friend, nuclear physicist Dr Peter Buck, on how to pay his college tuition.
With a $1,000 investment from Dr Buck, they opened their first outlet selling submarine sandwiches.
Since then, Subway has expanded to over 37,000 locations in over 100 countries.
The first Subway outlet in Malaysia was opened in 1999 in Ampang Point, Kuala Lumpur. Now, there are over 100 Subway outlets in Malaysia.
Currently, Subway is not open to franchising opportunities in West Malaysia. This is because, in 2022, Subway elected Pegacorn Sdn Bhd as its master franchise to support its growth in the region. This partnership will see Subway open 500 regional outlets in 10 years.
Details on franchising opportunities in East Malaysia to be confirmed.
