Pros and Cons of WooCommerce

  • Open-source platform
  • Highly extendable and customisable
  • Can be complicated to set up for beginners

WooCommerce is the open-source extension of the ever-popular WordPress CMS. It was first launched in September 2011 by Adii Pienaar, Magnus Jepson, and Mark Forrester as WooThemes in South Africa. It was later acquired by WordPress in 2015 and is currently under the Automattic group of companies. WooCommerce powers over 14,000 websites in Malaysia, including Pocket Times by Sin Chew and UTM.

WooCommerce’s Plans & Pricing

WooCommerce is an open-source eCommerce CMS, so you don’t have to pay to use it. However, you will need to pay for hosting for your WooCommerce store. Hosting for WooCommerce is typically higher than non-eCommerce websites and can start at around RM50/month.
